We never thought we ’d say this … but there are almost too many new bars and restaurants opening up in Amsterdam these days . How the hell are you suppose to keep up ? ! That ’s where we come in . We sucked it up and pluck the listing of the ~100 2016 newcomer to give you the inside scoop on which were the most worthy of your time and budget . ( Oh , plus some previous favorites now course new locality ! )

Restaurant & Café DS

The next club phenomenon from theTrouwteam , De School , is named for the fact that it ’s in … a former schoolhouse . They take the schoolhouse theme quite seriously , too , even return the odd class in the space during less nightclubby hour , and leaving the gymnasium intact for , you bed , gymnasium material . But they mostly just adopt the nostalgia - inducing interior design , which has been spruced up with some plants and cherry leather couch . So , naturally , when it comes to its on - website sandwich café and multi - course eatery , they just diagnose them both DS . Both feature veggie - onwards menu with relatively simple dish aerial like white potato vine - jalapeño - feta that nonetheless have several of our friends say it ’s “ the in effect restaurant food they ’ve wipe out in year . ” Oh yeah , and did we name that the club has a 24 - hour license ?

BREDA

OK , we ’re cheating a little here , as this one technically open up at the end of 2015 … but since it ’s all anyone seems to be talk about , leaving it off the list seemed like a criminal offense . The menu clearly take its inspiration from the full-bodied , Burgundian kitchen transportation of the Noord Brabant metropolis after which the restaurant is named ( and from which the three owners , the same cat behindGuts & Glory , come ) . you’re able to choose between the “ Basic ” , “ Extra ” or “ Full Monty ” computer menu for your damage point of choice ( € 49.50 - 79.50 ) , but the number of courses and the dishes themselves will abide a surprise until the second the plates appear in front of you . You ’ll have much more alternative when it comes to the wine , though : there are 15 by the chicken feed and 60 by the nursing bottle .

IJsmanschap

frosting cream has had its day in the sunlight . OK , it ’s still having it , but now there are other , juicy quick-frozen options as well . self-contained manner out West , this lollipop shop ’s signature tune sapidity is Champagne - raspberry , but you get your pick of plenty of others , like Vietnamese iced chocolate or hemangioma simplex - yogurt - chia seed . It ’s up to you whether you wanna go deluxe with the chocolatey topping of your choice and/or nuts . ( intimation : always go deluxe . )

A’DAM Toren

This is guaranteed to be the biggest ( in both size and impact ) opening for the rest of the year . After much anticipation , the former Shell tower has eventually been born-again . It ’s got a hotel , a medicine schooltime , music - industry offices , a member ’s club , Amsterdam ’s most exclusive suite ( a rumored € 10k / night ) , plus a much more public 20th - story sentry chopine – with a giant golf stroke ( coming shortly ) where you could bewilder yourself out over the abyss , for an extra fee . As for the eating and dancing : now open are the lookout - conterminous MA’DAM eating house and order , and Amsterdam ’s own rotating restaurant ( we did n’t overlook the course , did we ? ) Moon , the floor below , with a newButchersocial club coming soon , and basement club Shelter opening in September . By the end of the year , the A’DAM Toren promises 24/7 intellectual nourishment , drink , and entertainment .

Meneer Nieges

RIPNevel . And Nevy before that . And before that Odessa . This prime waterside spot with a monolithic bench ( which alas misplace its sun by borreltijd ) has had a hatful of bad luck – which must be where the new owners pay off their Modern name : “ nieges ” have in mind “ bad ” or “ naughty ” in Amsterdams - Yiddish . However , since this is the product of theHannekes BoomandDe Vergulden Eenhoornowners , the result is anything but bad . The multilevel cementum - and - locoweed bench and broad Interior Department have been given novel life in small , quirky detail , and the locus knockout out reasonably price , fancy lunchtime sandwiches and three courses of French - influenced , veggie - heavy local favorites ( think green asparagus with a celeriac cream , Olea europaea , hazelnuts , and a stewed eggs ) come evening . Plus , plenty of drinks .

Nescio

The newAmsterdam outlet of the Generator Hostelis mostly just that : a hostel … if a first-rate - swanky one . However , thanks to this piece de resistance taproom & café , locals are flocking there anyway . The bar really covers three space : you ’ll find most people gather in the mod café field or on the Oosterpark - flank terrace , but the ocular showpiece is the former lecture student residence that was converted to lounge seating . Oh yeah , the food is excellent , too – go for the pizza pie ( it ’s Italian approve ) . P.S. : there ’s another swank Boiler Room bar in the basement , but you have to get prosperous ( and deep ) to find the door to that one unlocked .

NEST

Amsterdam ’s newest rooftop hot spotlight only opens its doors when the weather is worthy . But when that happens , you ’ve catch an unobstructed Sunday bath waiting for you on top ofHotel Casa 400 , retiring at the same time the sun does at 11 post-mortem . Wash down your vitamin D with drinks and bites ( include some garden - grown goodness from right on the cap ) while lounging on the longsighted wooden benches . impart toDe Vergulden Eenhoorn , MOJO , andLa Vallade , the Ringdijk is becoming a serious place to be watch when the sun comes shining . Who make love ?

Pesca

Pisces the Fishes gets kick up a notch here , at the land ’s first " Theatre of Fish . ” Walk in and savour some amuse bouche , take your fish of choice from the central “ marketplace , ” and then chill with a drink and the other guests while it ’s prepared before you . When the handicap come , you ’ll be happy , as you ’ll ante up much less than you ask to .

John Dory vistronomie

If we distinguish you “ vis ” is Dutch for “ Pisces , ” you get it on everything you need to make out about this carte du jour . OK , maybe not everything , because what you also really ask to know is how unspoilt this historic warehouse - housed ocean - loving spotlight is . The chef got their practice at Visaandeschelde andThe Roast Room , and now roil out topically get small fish and seafood dishes with top quality and presentation .

Kauffmann

It may have a snack - bar theme – taking the “ bar ” part badly , as its other specialty is an all-embracing menu of Dutch beer – but it makes such a head - ball up falafel ( a few different salmagundi , actually ) that it ’s worth the bicycle ride out west . This is no mere takeaway spot , either : there ’s a pleasant , advanced - art - accented café interior , and a tiny bench for you to get your beer & felafel fill .

Restaurant Bleu

As the name yield away , this is a French spot – though a “ down to earth ” one – meaning your dish sizes of Frenchie faves like steak tartare and escargot will be bigger than your bill . Seeing as this is from the same Guy behind one of our chophouse favorites , Black and Blue , do n’t be surprised to see a level-headed - sized nub section on the menu .

The White Room

The 1885 “ Witte Zaal ” of the five - star Krasnapolsky Hotel has been reborn with a trendier English variation of its name , an gilded gold - and - white interior , and triple - Michelin - starred chef Jacob Jan Boerma ’s signature menu of invigorated and tangy dishes – like angelical - and - dour red beets with a frothy yoghurt – prepared by Arturo Dalhuisen , a chef trained in Boerma ’s other eating place . It ’s actually not as ludicrously expensive as you might expect , either : a four - course meal cost € 65 , and tiffin less .

Pikoteo

With Hugo ’s Bar & Kitchen no longer around , the men behind it have espouse full - on fusion fare – a mix of Latin , Asian , and European flavors . guess low plates of martini - glass tortilla , foie gras crème brûlée , and quail lollipops . At lunch time , you’re able to even catch some sun at the waterside patio .

Bar Botanique

It was the end of an Oost epoch when café De Ponteneur closed its doorway in December after 25 years of being every local ’s favorite lunch spot . After moving through the five stages of grief , we ’ve come to acceptance : De Ponteneur is dead . Long live Bar Botanique ! placard itself as a “ tropical neck of the woods living - room café , ” De Ponteneur ’s dramatically high - ceilinged internal and roomy - bench outside have been spruced up with a caboodle of greenery , plus an all - day culinary turn of Continental café classic . This is another one from the crew behindDe Biertuin , Waterkant , Smokin ’ Barrels ,   and all the residue , so we expect heavy things .

Lt. Cornelis

Though the restaurant , shroud down a back alley in the Medieval Center , has a Golden Age theme , the bill of fare of Dutch classic has been made good innovative . Choose from locally sourced dishes like raw herring with jam and shallots ; pig neck with piccalilly sauce , capers , doughy raisin bread , and gravy ; and a croquette of aged Malva sylvestris with young spinach plant , beets , and pick . fundamentally , if a chinchy version ofd’Vijff Vlieghensounds up your alleyway , you need to go to the website and make a reserve right now .

Meatless District

This vegetarian / vegan restaurant serves up version of Amsterdam café - menu favorites like croquettes , falafel , and “ chicken ” Caesar salad in a bright , grayish - washed distance ironically mould after Manhattan ’s Meatpacking District .
