Back in March , BMW turned 100 years onetime , and to celebrate its centenary , it released theBMW VisionNext 100 concept , the designers ' take on what auto will be like a century from today . Now , the party just loose twomoreconcepts , theMINIandRolls - Royce Vision Next 100 . At first coup d’oeil they ’re all a electric shock to the system of rules ( read : ugly as sinfulness ) – but then again , today ’s cars would be too , compared to automobiles of the early 20th century .
Take a closer face , though , and it ’s kinda hard to pry your middle away .
BMW Vision Next 100
The Bimmer example you ’ve credibly seen , at least in passing , since it debuted back in March . It ’s unlike anything you ’ve seen on the road , and yet , instantaneously recognisable as a BMW – a testament to the branding forcefulness of those iconic kidney wicket and the BMW signature Hofmeister kink ( that line that arches upward at the back of the rear - side windowpane ) .
The residue of the exterior is , well …
The copper colour was n’t for a bling bling event – it ’s a symbolization of vigor efficiency . You ’ll notice the window are paint , and per BMW , that results in less power used to regulate the interior temperature . The fuzz colouration come into frolic because it ’s representative of the metal ’s excellent thermal conductivity .

Also , take down the fomite on the far right field of the photograph . The futurist BMW is face forward , while aMercedes G - wagenis orient in the diametric counsel . It ’s a subtle dig , both because the G - wagon look mostly the same now as it did 40 years ago , and because BMW and Mercedes have a account of gently troll one another .
Rolls-Royce Vision Next 100
The gas constant - R concept is strange and yet oddly spellbinding . From the outside it look like a crossbreeding between a very old - schooling whorl – the kind with the chauffeur sitting freestanding from the passengers – and a catamaran . Somehow , the more you wait at it , the more it works . The recollective hoodlum is really a luggage compartment , and then there ’s the cabin …
And I do meancabin . There ’s a veritable lounge , and no color of anything automobile - like – did you really think that a C from now the moneyed would be schlepped around in anything other than an autonomous car ? Also , mark that colorful dialog box at the front – that ’s a hologram video display , including your own personal hologram holy person - slash - concierge . If you ’re conversant with Rolls at all , you ’ll recognize her as the Spirit of Ecstasy .
MINI Vision Next 100
OK , here ’s where it gets a little weird(er ) . MINI ’s sight of the time to come is , as you might expect give the make ’s current oblation , a wholly customizable experience . It ’s also translucent at times . The focusing here is all on seamlessly fitting the car into your life , but encouragingly , it still has a steering wheel . evidently , none of us will be around in a hundred years to see if MINI amount through on the hope , but if it does , there might be Leslie Townes Hope for the future of motoring after all .
