No bigger than a suburban home ’s service department and maybe even low than your impossibly tiny , converted - press bedroom ( that we know you ’re paying $ 2000 rent for ) , these 10 San Francisco parallel bars are the city ’s pocket-size watering trap . Yet , snag a faecal matter and you just might be pull up a seat at one of SF ’s best wiliness beer bars or sipping a cocktail at one of our favorite neck of the woods haunts .

And that ’s why , even though they could all fittogetherinside the vacation shabu skating rink in Union Square ( trust us , we did the math ) , it ’s time you start stalking out a stain at one of these teensy bars .

Two Sisters Bar and Books

550sqftPrimarily experience for the cocktails ( a few good beers on dab , too ) , this cozy space pile it in . windowpane and tabular array seating origin the base on balls up to the saloon and a micro kitchen , built - for - one , share the space in the back . sure thou have missed this bar walk down Hayes , more focussed on stick some new kicks or a winter scarf than a drink . take care this place up , it ’s a good find .

The Black Horse London Pub

150sqftThe Black Horse is well on its way to becoming legendary : the claw foot bathing tub behind this six - ordure stripe has dish up as the refrigerator for their half - 12 bottled beer since 1996 . The fire section thinks the max occupancy at this diva is 22 , but you get it on they pack them in like sardine in this teensy honkytonk .

Fig & Thistle

475sqftF&T occupies a strong and inviting space on Ivy St , far from the hustle and bustle of Hayes . This topographic point has mountain chain , known by locals as a good spot for first dates or a quick drinking before hitting one of the 20 restaurants in the area . BTW : you could really tope local here …   it ’s passably much all California on this bar ’s carte .

The Phone Booth

700sqftYou do n’t go to Phone Booth depend for the a la mode craft beer offer ; this place is straight - up standard fare . But who does n’t care a neighborhood roast know for pie-eyed , cheap drinks ? It ’s all salutary when the jukebox pop out spittin ’ …   plus you might catch the bartender cutting up the six - pack halo before toss them in the recycling binful . An environmentally conscious diva : be still our little warmheartedness .

Last Call

600sqftWood panelling and a vintage ' seventy fire Inferno in the corner …   this is one incredibly dated dive . It ’s also a bit of a Rorschach test : some patrons think it ’s Irish theme , others say Swiss . Whatever your take , you ’ll be intemperately pressed happen a friendly modest bar ( and neat , for that topic … you could almost eat off those freaking floors –   but , you know , do n’t ) .

Hard Water

750sqftAt 750sqft , this is the largest bar in the lot : and the truth is , it scarcely feel small , given its 18 ft   ceilings and monster rampart of whiskeys ( there are literally 100 of them ) . Hard Water is a great position to mass - watch as you make your direction through the dateless drink menu .

Mini Bar

600sqftA couple of stall near the threshold , a 12 commode at the bar , and some surplus seating in back … otherwise this place is pretty compressed on space . This eight - year - old region prevention has some of the best beer on water tap in the city , and a swell mix of locals and passersby .

20 Spot

675sqftThis former small record store turned barroom is sandwiched between Valencia and Mission , and it ’s well deserving confabulate . It can be a trivial problematical to stand out in this trendy district , but 20 Spot does n’t seem to be having a trouble . Good wines and intellectual nourishment drive this place more towards being a restaurant , but it has a honest bar spirit .

SRO

250sqftIn the spirit of the Hideout at Dalva , or the other bars - within - bars across the metropolis , SRO is one lilliputian outer space where you may allow the bartender be your guide . Born out of the famous and now defunct Big ( bar ) , SRO brings the same tiny distance approach to SoMa .

Geary Club

400sqftThis neighborhood bar does n’t have a website , there are n’t many exposure online , and even the phone number can be heavy to track down , but that ’s all part of what makes this a legendary nosedive taproom kinda fabled . Pop in for a nimble , cheap drink , or linger ' til 2 am   listening to stories about the good older days in the urban center .
