Westworldhas already presented us with several big mysteries to figure out , but a nonaged logistic puzzle , introduced in the second episode , is keeping us up at night : How do people in reality get to this position ?

Directed by Richard J. Lewis , " Chestnut " begins with Logan ( Ben Barnes ) , a douchey Westworld warhorse , returning with his first - timekeeper pal William ( Jimmi Simpson ) – a reverential homage to Michael Crichton ’s original picture , which had James Brolin and Richard Benjamin encounter exchangeable use . HBO ’s   pair even arrives at the futurist parking area ’s headquarters in a similar manner , vianifty levitation .

They do n’t , however , enter Westworld by stagecoach , as the characters did in the original ; they get there aboard a vintage steam train called the Black Ridge Limited . How this transportation between the posh arrival hub and the Old West occurs is worth a close feel because , like everything in the show , it ’s a head - scratcher .

Seen above , William effectively transition from his fitting room to the 19th hundred through a doorway . Then a ski lift or gate activates out of doors , and he ’s on the railroad train . ( The same thing happens once Logan wraps up his kinky sexbot clientele . )

Creative viewers have   speculated that the glowering swipe behind the door could be a room that moves up and down like an elevator , while the carriage stays stationary ( orvice versa ) – a way to move patron from the costume - meet arena to transit . ( Like this . )

The permutation is dreamlike and silklike , giving the impression that William has stepped through a gateway into the past . But how does Delos accomplish this illusion ? Is it really with an elevator ?

Other fans   have provided substitute theories : could it be a sidewaysrailway turntable ? Or is that doorliterallya portal that teleports you to an already - moving train ? Could William and Logan be entering , or already have figure , some elaborate chassis of practical realism ? Or are guests belittle and institutionalise into the tiny humanity we see on security ’s big , round tabular array – frickin’Honey , I reduce the Kids - style ?

question and theories abound because it ’s unclear where in the actual world , or the macrocosm , the park and its base are locate . But a few important detail back up the elevator and turntable hypotheses . Notably , the windows are black before Logan panel ( hinting that the carriage might be inside a payload burrow of sorting ) , and the ceiling lamps shake when William asks how they get to Sweetwater ( meaning the entire train was antecedently at rest period , wait for Logan to finish , because he ’s a selfish little sneak ) . Daylight also deluge the car after   William set his question :

It would seem that part of Westworld ’s " individualized " experience includes get on the train in camera . Then , once all the passengers are accounted for , the locomotor emerge from an underground , or enclosed , post .

Another find , from later on in " Chestnut " : Before Dr. Ford ( Anthony Hopkins ) interacts with Robot Kid in the desert , he walk around what wait like an employee   utility corridor , like the ones thatconnecteverything at Disney World , before taking a rhytidoplasty of sorts at once to a distant , unprogrammed or de - commission area above primer coat :

If what we ’re find out onscreen is speculate to be taken at expression economic value , HBO’sWestworldmight role a heap like   Crichton’s , which   made utilization of utilidors andunderground chutesto connect Delos HQ and its triad of man . The big import being that the ballpark and its substructure would existin the same physical realm .

But how faithfulisthis reboot sample to be ? We ’ve so far seen no firm indicant that thisWestworldcan’t be a " game " in the virtual or augmented reality sense . And even more perplexing than the frequenter ' trek is how the show ’s procedure teams get hold of the robots so quickly .   Arnold , if you ’re heed , we ’d like some more hints .
