I ’m not going to nonplus around the bush : a lot ofveggie burgerstaste like soybean - fill up hockey puck not fit for human ingestion . And I should recognize , because I ate a ton of vegetable burgers growing up . I live on them in college . And also post - college . And I had one for lunch this week . So essentially , all my life .
I ’ve also had plenty of real burgers , mostly to make up for the fact that I did n’t deplete them earlier in life when I was mostly a vegetarian . And yet I ’ve never require a veggie beefburger to taste like a real Warren E. Burger in my life .
That all changed when I went to a enceinte ol’Whole Foodsin Boulder , CO and had aBeyond Burger .

What the hell is a Beyond Burger?
A Beyond Burger is a 100 % vegan hamburger primarily made from pea protein isolate , canola oil , and coconut oil . It ’s unlike from the Beast Burger you might have look in the frozen discussion section of your local supermarket . The folks behind the society that make it , Beyond heart , are forever fine-tune the formula of its burgers , and this is the latest version . Also , Bill Gates invested in the companionship , so it ’s got ta be good ! This is the Windows 95 of Warren Earl Burger ! in reality , it ’s much better , and I did n’t , umm , collapse immediately after eating it .
It ’s also different from your average veg Warren E. Burger because it ’s made fresh . The workers at this Beyond Burger - theme rejoinder in the Whole Foods solid food court throw the phony meat mixture on the attack aircraft carrier like you would raw meat . you may even buy the refrigerated , fresh " core " in the real center counter at this particular Whole Foods ( buy it if you see it – they sell out one - and - a - half week of mathematical product in 24 hours here when it debut ) , and the plans are to roll this product out to 34 stores in the region in the next four - six weeks . For now , this vegan burger counter where I corrode the Beyond Burger is the only one of its kind in the country , though they ’re in the process of build another one in the Pacific region in 2016 .
chance are that you might be able to make this burger on your grill sometime in 2016 – so let ’s prod into what it tastes like .

What’s it taste like?
oddly , kind of like a hamburger ! I ’ve heard the great unwashed say the real fashion to test a veggie burger is to sample it side - by - side with a veridical Warren E. Burger – and that it ’s only good if you may befool someone into think the fake one is literal ! Who the Hades eats food that way ? Unless you populate deep down of a super - strange prank show , that ’s a garbage way of thinking . So , no , this burger would not befool a meat eater . But that does n’t think of it is n’t damn well .
While this burger can be consumed by vegans , it ’s also design to be just another source of protein for omnivores to eat . As one Whole Foods rep head out to me , " it chews like a burger " too . He ’s not wrong . It ’s also not teetotal – it taste undeniably unused . Other mass medium outlet with reporter who have n’t actually eaten the burger have compose that it " bleeds , " but I did n’t see any augury of that . And I ’ve never once eaten a burger and like more descent was pouring out of it . This has the close matter to a burger ’s mouthfeel of any vegetable burger I ’ve ever had . I call up when I first had a Boca Burger a billion year ago and thought , " Wow , this almost is like a real burger ! " I was dazed back then . But you have to taste this to believe it .
The burger pictured is aBig Macripoff , and they set the two patties with lettuce , tomato , onion , pickles , and a Sriracha - based sauce that sum up a nice bit of heat , and the coconut - based Chao high mallow . I could have done without the whole - wheat berry roll , but overall , the ingredients shuffle to make a formidable lunch ( especially because you could pair it with sweet potato hush puppy and Millet bambino made by local company RollinGreens ) . One Warren Burger is more than enough .

This is the future of fake meat
Beyond Meat seems to have the ethnical ( and financial ) capital to bring its phony heart and soul to the masses , specially as long as Whole Foods is partner with the fellowship to advertise its products . And this burger is the company ’s theme song item , one that I think could convert meat - eater like myself to cut a regular burger every once in a while and have a Beyond Burger instead .
