In the Modern thrillerHell or High Water , two brothers ( play by Chris Pine and Ben Foster ) arrange a series of bank robbery in rescript to pull through the family farm . On their tails is a soon - to - sack out Texas sheriff , who is introduced quicker than a quick - draw ’s six - shooter . For sound reason : Jeff Bridges ask no introduction .

With the rowdy heist motion-picture show run into theater of operations this weekend , we jibe in with the Oscar - winningDudeto incur out how a Hollywood kid like him grew to be a westerly ikon , and to find out what he really thinks of Texas .

You snap naturally into Westerns, despite being born and raised in LA. How’d that happen?

I call up one of my first picture show wasThe Last Picture Show– scoot in Texas . That ’s the way that the showbiz exercise often . You get known for a certain form of character . I tried my unvoiced not to develop too strong of a role . My father , Lloyd Bridges , he developed a very strong persona withSea Hunt , a goggle box show back in the ' sixty . It drove him crazy . He got offered so many skin - diving scripts !

How has Texas changed since you shotThe Last Picture Showin the early ’70s?

It ’s hard to really say the difference . I commemorate when we did the sequel toLast Picture Show , [ 1990’s]Texasville , we scud it in Archer City , the little township where we shot the first one . And the town looked on the dot the same , except there was a big white glass bank , like it dropped out of the sky and fell in the heart of the town . That ’s about the only difference . That ’s one of the idea of [ Hell and High Water ] , too – banks own the farm , grease one’s palms them up . I guess you could link up that to , poetically , the Citizens United stuff . That changes things .

You often wear cowboy hats in movies. Do you wear cowboy hats in real life?

Sure , yeah . I keep the cowboy lid from each movie . I ’ve got a hatful of them . They ’re give ear on the hook shot there [ at Bridges ' spread ] in Montana and where I survive in Santa Barbara .

Speaking of Montana, you oncepublisheda five-day conversation you had with Zen teacher Bernie Glassman at your ranch. What is it about Montana?

It ’s very dear to my heart . We ’ve had a ranch there for going on 40 year . I did a bunch of film up there . My first moving picture up there wasThunderbolt and Lightfoot . I just feel , the first meter I set foot in Montana , I cogitate , " Oh , I ’ve got to get a place here . There ’s just something magical about it . "

The 2nd movie I did in Montana , Rancho Deluxe , was very important in my life history – that ’s the moving picture I encounter my married woman on . Tom McGuane drop a line that book , and Jimmy Buffett is a groovy Quaker of Tom ’s , and he was on the stage set and in reality wrote a melodic line for that movie . Jimmy ’s been a Quaker all those years . Wherever I go , I find euphony . In movies , wherever , there ’s always somebody who likes to foot , that variety of thing .

Your character cranks up music during a big car chase for some added “giddy-up.” What’s your “giddy-up” music?

You know , some good Hank [ Williams ] or some up - area tune . " My Bucket ’s get a Hole in It " or " Jambalaya ( On the Bayou ) . " You get it on , it ’s knockout to ticktack Hank . I ’m here in Austin honoring Kris Kristofferson – he ’s certainly a great land musician . I ’m stay at the Van Zandt hotel in Austin , describe after Townes Van Zandt – he was a great country creative person . Waylon , you make love – wonderful . Willie [ Nelson ] . Johnny Cash .

You also create your own giddy-up music. What’s the greatest musical moment of your life?

I had my Beatles moment when my striation , the Abiders , played Lebowski Fest . I trifle to a sea of Dudes , and bowling pin , and Maudes , and Walters . Oh , adult male , that was estimable .
