I spent a Saturday drive from Summer to Jackson to Winchester to Germantown Rd looking for the best taco truck in Memphis . I found many . But enigmatically could n’t situate one of the most popular ones : Chile Verde ( with the strawberry salsa ) . Please call me , Chile Verde , and let me lie with you ’re OK . irrespective , there are still long ton of delicious taco to be had ( unless you ’re a vegetarian ) , so , I had them . And then I rank them all .
8. Taqueria Express #5
4590 Summer AveTaqueria Express is know either as " Superman Tacos " because of its fix in front of the Superman Discount Market or " $ .99 taco " because of its boldly advertised cost . disregardless of what you call it , this is by far one of the most pop trucks . Be fain to place your social club , take a number , and wait about 10 - 15 minutes . The $ .99 taco choices include beef cattle , chicken , pork , chorizo , tongue , and gut ( folderol ) . The duplicate - up corn tortilla are grill and a bit crispy , and standard toppings admit cilantro and onion plant with a side of pickled carrot , saucy Raphanus sativus , and lemon . The red salsa has a skillful spirit , with a strong kick .
7. Pupuseria “Anitas”
4681 Summer AveThis wetback truck adjacent to O’Reilly ’s Auto Parts was dissimilar than the others we found for several ground . First , it ’s an RV , not a truck . Never call someone ’s RV a truck , they ’ll get really overturned . Second , it ’s technically a pupuseria – pupusas are thick corn whisky tortillas that are traditionally stuff with beans , cheese , and/or meat . However , this particular one also sells tacos . This was the only hand truck to ask if I wanted clams and love apple ( both of which were top - quality ) . The $ 2 tacos also include chunks of Mexican tall mallow and are do on one flour tortilla . Both the hot & soft salsas were tasty , but the meat ( pork , in this cause ) was the real standout . It was grilled to flawlessness and was indisputably tasty and sapid . There ’s a cute seating area , and they trade desserts in an adjacent truck .
6. Jalapeño’s
4011 Jackson AveJalapeno ’s , which is right in front of an AutoZone , wins the awarding for fast tacos . They are $ 1.50 each and take close to one moment to scald up . Each comes with thick grilled onions , cilantro , and lime . They also come on repeat - up corn tortillas , served with a side of green salsa – which you may take to their seating field . There ’s not a detailed menu , so you ’ll have to ask what meat is usable . And if you ’re tacoed out , they ’ll sell you a odoriferous , delightful pupusa .
5. Taqueria la Huasteca
6616 Winchester RdThis taco trailer can be found in the Winchester International Farmer ’s Market parking lot . These $ 2 tacos are quite square , add up on one maize tortilla , and are made basic , with coriander and onion . The accompanying green salsa , however , is awe-inspiring … like , so amazing , you ’ll want to buy a bucket of it . There ’s a good selection of drink offered here as well , from Jarritos sodas to Starbucks Frappucinos .
4. Taqueria La Guadalupana
1150 N. Germantown PkwyThe La Guadalupana hand truck parked in the Cordova Farmer ’s Market lot has a very exchangeable menu to the brick & mortar ( only slightly scaled back ) . It was one of two trucks offering seafood ( see No . 1 ) , and it also bluster the most expensive tacos at $ 2.25 a piece . It was also the only truck that had n’t run out of Tamale – I do n’t know what this means , but I ’m into it . The shrimp taco I ordered was wrapped in foil – as opposed to being serve on a Styrofoam plate like all the others I ’ve had . And the red-hot chopped prawn were mixed with cilantro and onion ( it was delicious ) . Also , the red salsa also did not take up . dainty oeuvre , Taqueria La Guadalupana .
3. El Burrito Express
4038 Jackson AveEl Burrito Express , which parks next to the Rub - a - Dub launderette , has one of the most thoroughgoing menus that I ’ve ever see on a greaser motortruck , as well as the friendliest possessor , though I do n’t believe the two are mutually exclusive . If you ’re looking for something off - the - beaten - path ( like throat tacos ) , this is the place . Tacos are $ .99 and come on doubled - up corn tortillas with onion plant and cilantro . The portions are ( understandably ) small , but pack a biff , especially if you take advantage of the pickle carrots and radish . The creamy , avocado pear - based green sauce here was my favourite of the day . There ’s also a racy redness salsa if you experience like burn up your tongue a minuscule . Usually , there ’s about a five- to 10 - mo wait , BUT they do accept call - in purchase order .
2. Taqueria Los Compadres
5895 Winchester RdTaqueria Los Compadres parks at the BP Station near Big Daddy ’s Pawn in Hickory Hill . At first glance , it expect like it might be begin gas , but it ’s not . Some of its most noticeable attribute are its disco light and the cooler full of Mexican Cokes . Aside from that , the tacos are awing . The salsa is flack . And the mend are all there for customization ( Coriandrum sativum , onion plant , lime , pickled carrots , fresh radish , superfluous grilled onion , and – wait for it – a grill pepper ) . And at $ .99 each , these are well worth the trip .
1. Tacos Los Jarochos
4900 Summer AveLos Jarochos has a wide selection than most other truck – it offers a variety of meats , including shrimp , and you could have your selection of corn whiskey or flour tortillas . It also has a address deck with ample seating , accept mention cards , and partners with a Mexican ice pick shop ( which has A / C ) . It has two different red salsas and a salsa verde ( all made there ) that are marvellous ( and not for the faint of heart ) , and alike toppings to the other motortruck ( limes , radishes , avocado sauce , etc ) , plus a few others like cucumbers , bell peppercorn , pickled jalapeños , and cheese .
