The Belcher family , their mortician neighbor , and the lovable plaster cast of side characters like Mr. Fischoeder and panicky Mr. Frond are six seasons deep , have spawned aporn parody , and are by and large engrained in papa culture now . But creator Loren Bouchardrecently revealedthatBob ’s Burgerswasn’t originally going to be quite so family friendly .
In the original pitch , the Belchers were man-eater who served punny burgers made of human physical body .
When they set up it , Fox liked the show , but had no interest in the part about the family being anthropophagus , Bouchard aver .
Very ahead of time on , [ Fox ] pronounce , " Well , do you need the cannibalism ? " I had really put it in there because I thought they would require it . I ’m coming off of work for Adult Swim , and the darker , more scandalous face seemed like what you needed in order for an animated idea to swerve through the noise
As adumbrate in the television above , the show would have been very different . However , a few holdovers from the original construct remain . For instance , " Human Flesh , " the pilot light episode , had the Belchers get a health review from Linda ’s old flame Hugo , who suspects that there ’s human flesh in the burgers .
That episode also have them grinding marrow in the basement , a routine like how Sweeney Todd deposited bodies in the basement of his barbershop for Mrs. Lovett ’s core pies . The instalment also introduces Mort the mortician who have a funeral abode next door . That would be an easy source of " component " for the cannibal burger shop . If not Mort ’s stagnant bodies , then maybe their need for the great unwashed meat is the cause that the business to the right of the storehouse in the gap credit commute every sequence .
While theSilence of the Lambsversion of the show sounds entertaining and drear , if not a fiddling tough to keep pass away ( how many cannibal jokes before you go back toBoJack Horseman ? ) , it ’s likely for the best that the show did n’t go in that direction . Thisranking of every burger special(or thecookbook for those burgers ) would feel kind of wrongfulness if they were supposed to be made a la Soylent Green .
