I ’m a stand - up comedian . My clowning career was bear in Boston , and I ’ve performed thousands of hour of comedy there , which makes me pretty nigh to being an expert on it . involve Malcolm Gladwell . Or do n’t . ( He might not fuck what you ’re talking about . ) Either mode , here are some cracking places to see drollery in Boston , base on both my brain ’s retentiveness and talk with bright funniness - savvy friends … who have dissimilar brain memories .

The Comedy Studio

This is where I take up out , so this is where I ’ll start out . For the past 20 years ( this April is the twentieth anniversary ) , the attic of the Hong Kong eating house in Harvard Square has been home to one of the cosy , friendly , smart , funniest , and most enjoyable clowning venues in the universe . Do you wish Chinese food ? Does n’t matter . There ’s no two - dumpling minimum . And there ’s no laughing maximum . It ’s open almost every dark of the calendar week for you to love the comedy magic . ( And one night of the week for you to enjoy an actual wizard show . The rest of the time it ’s metaphorical magic . You know , howling clowning . )

Wilbur Theatre

Want to see a comedian you ’ve probably emphatically heard of ? This is your upright stake . The Wilbur hosts some of comedy ’s biggest public figure doing tie-up - up shows , be podcast tape , and probably other things . What more could you want ? Specifics ? Fine ! come before long , you may see folks like Trevor Noah , Norm Macdonald , Maria Bamford , etc . ( I love the comedy stylings of “ etc . ” ) . If you have a clock time simple machine , experience costless to go back to 2013 and see me tape my first minute special there . Things like that happen .

The Gas at Great Scott

Great Scott ! This venue has a name that sounds like a Christopher Lloyd quote . By day , it ’s a mild - mannered bar . But by Nox ( every Friday at least ) , it becomes The Gas , a showcase boast the skillful in local comedy and beyond . If you revel alcoholic beverage and/or fine curated funniness , with hopefully an accent on the latter , then I think I ’ve said enough .

ImprovBoston

you’re able to see both sketch and fend - up comedy at this locale , which is actually located in Cambridge . ( THE NAME IS A SHAM ! ) Of naturally , Cambridge is in the Boston domain , and they do have improv . So never mind , it ’s all right . Anyway , I once attend them improvise a full - distance episode ofThe Love Boat . But that ’s not all they do . So if you hump dear , love boats , love sexual love sauceboat , or do n’t , this is a endearing position to see improv , sketch , and/or stand - up . Who knows what it ’ll be … ensure the schedule .

Improv Asylum

This venue IS in Boston , but does n’t say it . Also , it ISN’T an asylum , but it DOES have shows that combine consultation - inspired improv with pre - pen sketches that wo n’t ask you for any stirring at all .

Laugh Boston

As the self - exalt “ stand - up sister to the Improv Asylum , ” Laugh Boston is the urban center ’s newest full - time place to laugh ( with a name that makes a sight of sense ) . Of all the places on this list , it ’s the one I ’ve have n’t been to yet , so hopefully that contribute a dash of closed book to the experience . What will it be like ? I do n’t know . credibly great ! They ’re institute in a flock of comical comedian .

The Milky Way

This place has a number of worthwhile shows to check out , from Casey Malone ’s Fine Line Comedy to Will Smalley and Andrew Mayer ’s Two Kids in a Trench Coat . Fun people in a fun position .

Dick Doherty’s Comedy Den

A Boston staple whose impact and influence on the scene goes back decennium , the Comedy Den is the latest incarnation of Dick Doherty ’s Boston comedy club evolution . in person , Dick Doherty was one of the first Bostonians to pay me to execute on his stage , so his establishments contain a special space in my heart . They can hold one in your heart , too .

Nick’s Comedy Stop

According to Google , “ This no - ruffle theater with a full bar has been showcasing local clowning since 1977 . ” And it ’s true . As long as you believe the Internet …
