Sure , it ’s always a little clumsy when the local meteorologist proclaims that it ’s colder here than it is in Antarctica , or when it snows heavily enough to altogether bury your car , but we own these things ; we do n’t triumph in the frozen puddle of our own distressing and frigid miserableness . We are champions of the cold - conditions wintertime , and here are a few hearty reasons as to why our winter are nothing short of enceinte .

First of all, our ice is cooler than your ice

Literally . Every year it seems that some new telecasting of the ice pass batshit crazy on Lake Superior goes viral ( catch some footage here ) . That ’s because our ice is just that much better than yours . It may sound empty-headed , but when you take into score places like the North Shore , Minnehaha Falls , or really any of our many lakes , rivers , or streams mate with extreme temperatures , you start to see ice do some pretty crazy things . Which is always worth see out .

We have the tools to deal with our wild winter weather

Let ’s face it : in some parts of the land a 1/4 in of snow will straight close everything down . But here , no matter how much snow we get or how thing may freeze down over , we have the plow and salt hand truck necessary to administer with the problem in a fairly expeditious style . While that might seem humble to some , it really does help oneself to keep us from being wintertime hermits . Also , our Charles Percy Snow emergency removal system , while maybe not 100 % perfect , does aid get rid of massive measure of C in a evenhandedly small amount of clip .

The sun doesn’t stop shining nor does our world stop turning

Despite the semi - frequent reoccurring gloomy day , when we do get sunshine here in the winter , we get it intemperately . In fact , many morning commutes have us clamor for our sunglasses – and not just because the sun is so intensely bright . When it mull over off of a crowd of newly fallen blow , it becomes almost too much to bear . But it ’s that kind of vibrant dose of vitamin D that helps to secure we keep on truckage and living our lives to the broad .

Yes , it gets cold and it can snow a lot , and with that can get gray dreary skies , but that does n’t mean we cut ourselves off from the rest of the human race . We pull on our snow pants one leg at a time and head out to confront wintertime ’s parky embrace … just like how people in the Pacific Northwest grab an umbrella and head to their local Starbucks all class round .

Speaking of heading out…

There are a ton of thing to do during the wintertime in Minnesota . really , some of the best festival take place during the colder months . There ’s theSaint Paul Winter Carnival , for illustration . Also , the Winter Beer Dabbler , the Luminary Loppet , Red Bull Crashed Ice , the U.S. Pond Hockey Championships , Polar Plunges , and the International Eelpout Festival ( calculate it up ) all take place in the throes of wintertime and each one bring out an unbelievable number of multitude .

There are plenty of fun ways to stay active

Yeah , everybody knows that Minnesota is the land of hockey , but there ’s a hatful more to us than baby-sit on our buns watching the Wild hover at the bottom of their division . In addition to watch hockey on tv set , many of us in reality wish to whip on skate and off the ice ourselves . Sure , we ’ll play a friendly plot with ally or go for a easy skate around the frappe , but we also go skiing ( crossbreeding - country and downhill ) , snowboarding , and sleigh . And there ’s a fairly rabid curling constituency . Plus , many Minnesotans motorcycle all year around … even through the worst blizzards .

And yes , we also go ice fishing .

We’ve got some indoor stuff, too

The pulley-block do n’t stop just because the nose candy commence falling . We ’ve got a prospering local music picture and a lot of expectant venue for checking out unexampled medicine . And guess what : they do n’t up and close their door when it begin to get chilly outdoors . First Avenue is always a nifty venue for both local and national act , the Triple Rock is solid if you ’re into the thug and local conniption , or you’re able to hit up the Cabooze for all sorts of shows – particularly if you ’re into the whole blue grass affair .

If you ’re athirst , there are a lot of nationally acclaimed bars mixing up high - end cocktails , brewery that come to the full equipped with onsite pubs , distilleries with onsite cocktail room , and restaurants galore .

AND did you sleep with that we also have the biggest theater scene in the state out of doors of New York ? If you ’re into that , there ’s plenty for you . sure enough , these things are available all year round , but in the winter time , there ’s just something a little extra particular about them .

The cold winter makes the rest of the year that much better

When it can get down to -50 degrees outside , it score +50 feel like it ’s bathing suit weather . So because the winter can be coarse ( but not deplorable ) , we run to bust out our short when the rest of the body politic is in jackets . That intuitive feeling alone is worth the few months of rough conditions . Plus , our outflow , summertime , and fall make our winters less miserable to live through , which is why we all stay . For all of those who unceasingly seem to wonder .
